This Content Was Written By The Alternative Medicine in Tulsa Experts at Revolution Health

Revolution Health and Wellness clinic was founded by Dr. Chad P. Edwards, DO. Dr. Edwards uses a healing therapy called prolotherapy to help rid patients of their chronic pain issues. Most of our patients (and even many physicians) have never heard of this form of alternative medicine in Tulsa and have a lot of questions about it. The following article will provide some history about the use of prolotherapy as a way to heal people from their chronic pain. To learn even more, call Dr. Edwards at Revolution Health today at 918-935-3636.

Prolotherapy was started by Dr George Hackett over 80 years ago. Dr. Hackett was a trauma surgeon in Ohio and realized that injecting the proliferant solution into the affected areas increased the thickness of ligaments, so he set out to study the effects. He started studying and injecting patients in an attempt to cure them of their pain with a 90% success rate. His first book was published in 1956 and was called “Ligament and Tendon Relaxation Treated by Prolotherapy.” Prolotherapy is an approved procedure by the American Osteopathic Association of Prolotherapy Integrative Pain Medicine.

Dr. C. Everett Koop, a former US Surgeon General, was a huge supporter of prolotherapy. Prolotherapy’s effectiveness is dependent on eliminating several different traditional ways of treating chronic pain, such as the use of anti-inflammatory medications, steroids, smoking, and applying ice. These are all interventions that will decrease the body’s ability to have an appropriate inflammatory response and will decrease the effectiveness of prolotherapy. Many of our patients that suffer from chronic pain conditions often wonder why they have never heard about prolotherapy before. Most physicians in traditional Western medicine haven’t heard of prolotherapy either.

Dr. Koop believed that many medical professionals are skeptical because prolotherapy seems to be too easy of a solution to the many complicated problems that afflict the human body. Especially those conditions that have been notoriously difficult to treat. Proliferant solutions are inexpensive, natural, and easy to mix and maintain. Because of this, no pharmaceutical company wants to market them, because there is no money in developing this form of alternative medicine in Tulsa. In a country where we are given so many reasons to be skeptical of the medical system, it’s understandable to be skeptical. We live in a society that is driven by Evidence Based Medicine (EBM), which means that most medical decisions are based on evidence that is derived only from sound scientific research.

Dr. Edwards has yet to find one patient who has received the benefits of prolotherapy that walked away from it with doubts of its effectiveness. We will give you all the information that you need in order to make an informed decision on whether you’d like to follow through with prolotherapy treatments. Prolotherapy is an excellent procedure that can drastically improve your quality of life. Prolotherapy has drastically changed many of our patients lives, and we know that it can help you have a better quality of life as well. Call Revolution Health today at 918-935-3636, and we’ll discuss if prolotherapy is the right treatment for you.

Dr. Edwards focuses on sports medicine and health and wellness as a preventative means to the best health possible, minimize the risk for injury, and decrease disease.

Dr. Edwards views his patients through a holistic approach which helps identify subtleties in their function that other traditional doctors may miss. He thrives off of helping others achieve their dreams of feeling healthy again and getting their lives back when nothing else has been able to help. If there was only one thing that we could do at Revolution Health to improve the health of Americans, it would be to educate them on proper lifestyle. We educate our patients on nutrition, exercise, body composition, quitting smoking, stress reduction, and nutritional supplementation (as needed). Addressing all of these issues will ensure that you will get to the best health possible and be able to prevent a number of severe medical problems.

At Revolution Health and Wellness, Dr. Edwards uses a proven therapy called prolotherapy to relieve chronic pain. In a simple explanation, prolotherapy stimulates the body to heal itself. Many musculoskeletal pains are caused by ligament or tendon relaxation. This means that there is damage to those structures that is causing instability. Prolotherapy is the injection of a proliferant substance into the damaged areas which stimulates an inflammatory response, which is the body’s natural healing mechanism. This response is the first step in healing damaged ligaments and tendons.

The body heals itself through a complex inflammatory process. There are three phases to this process. The first is inflammatory, which occurs within the first 36 hours or so following an injury. The second phase is proliferative, which occurs 36 hours to 6 weeks after. And the third phase is remodeling, which occurs over 6 weeks to about 18 months. This process is fairly effective but isn’t always 100%. Call us today at 918-935-3636 and find out how prolotherapy can help this process of healing throughout your entire body.
